Piastri Penalized, Ferrari Secures Second Row at Monza

Oscar Piastri will begin the Italian Grand Prix from sixth position following a three-place grid penalty for obstructing Liam Lawson during qualifying at Monza.

The McLaren driver impeded Lawson at Turn 2 in Q2 after exiting the pits. Although Piastri's engineer alerted him to the approaching cars, he claimed he was not informed that they were on flying laps. He attempted to yield to Verstappen but inadvertently delayed Lawson, leading to the penalty.

This penalty moves Piastri down from third place, promoting Charles Leclerc to third and Lewis Hamilton to fourth, resulting in an all-Ferrari second row. Max Verstappen now starts fifth alongside Piastri, while Pierre Gasly and George Russell maintain their positions on the front row. Other drivers, including Kimi Antonelli, Lawson, and Alex Albon, face separate power-unit penalties affecting their starting positions.
