Pirelli Identifies La Monumental as F1's Toughest Corner

Pirelli has designated La Monumental, a banked corner in Madrid, as the most challenging for Formula 1 tyres. Currently, there are no safety concerns regarding the corner, although teams are divided on whether it can be navigated at full throttle.

Before the race weekend, discussions in the paddock focused on safety and the potential risks posed by the new circuit. La Monumental features a 13.5-degree banking, which is less steep than Zandvoort's final corner but is still considered demanding due to the prolonged load on the tyres. Pirelli's chief engineer noted that the duration of load in La Monumental is significantly longer than in other corners, contributing to its difficulty.

Initial assessments align with Pirelli's pre-race simulations, indicating no immediate safety issues. Teams are still analyzing data from practice sessions to understand tyre performance better. Notably, simulations varied among teams regarding throttle usage in La Monumental, with some drivers needing to lift off the throttle, confirming the corner's complexity and the skill required to navigate it effectively.
