Pitso Mosimane Reappointed as Head Coach of South Africa's National Team
Pitso Mosimane has been reappointed as the head coach of South Africa's men's national football team, known as Bafana Bafana. This decision comes more than 14 years after his initial tenure, which lasted from July 2010 to June 2012.
The 62-year-old takes over from Hugo Broos, who stepped down after five years in the role when his contract ended in July. Broos led the team to a third-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and to the last 32 of the World Cup, marking South Africa's return to the finals for the first time since 2010.
The South Africa Football Association's executive committee approved Mosimane's reappointment on August 8, and he was officially introduced to the media in Johannesburg after finalizing his contract and technical team. The duration of his new contract has not been disclosed.
During his previous time as head coach, Mosimane faced challenges, including failing to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. Since leaving the national team, he has achieved significant success at the club level, winning the African Champions League three times with Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly, and has managed teams in Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, and Iran.
