POC Barocon Carbon MTB Helmet Review: A Premium Contender
The POC Barocon Carbon helmet has entered the downhill and freeride full-face market, priced at €800. It has been tested on various trails, including those in Germany's Palatinate region, and has already been used in World Cup racing.
This helmet features a unique carbon shell bonded to an impact-absorbing liner, enhancing structural strength while minimizing weight. Weighing 1,040 g in size M, it is lightweight for a full-face helmet, although it competes closely with POC's Coron Air Carbon Mips model.
The Barocon meets several safety certifications, including the EN 1078 and ASTM F1952 standards, and incorporates MIPS Evolve technology to reduce rotational forces during impacts. While the helmet offers excellent comfort and fit, its peak's finish does not match the overall quality expected at this price point. Despite this, the helmet's safety features and construction make it a strong option for serious downhill riders.
