Pol Espargaro Warns MotoGP Riders About 2027 Tyre Changes
Pol Espargaro, involved in the development of KTM's new 850cc prototype, has expressed concerns that MotoGP riders are unaware of the upcoming changes associated with the switch to Pirelli tyres in 2027. This transition marks a significant shift as Pirelli will replace Michelin, the series' sole tyre supplier since 2016.
Espargaro has accumulated considerable experience testing the new Pirelli tyres, which he describes as markedly different from the current Michelin options. He noted that the change is more substantial than the previous switch from Bridgestone to Michelin, suggesting that the riding dynamics will be completely altered.
He also highlighted that riders transitioning from other classes, such as Superbike and Moto2, may have an advantage with the new tyres. Espargaro pointed out that MotoGP riders will have limited time to adapt to the Pirellis, with only a few testing opportunities before the season begins. He anticipates that the competitive landscape will shift significantly as manufacturers and riders adjust to the new tyre dynamics.
