Police Officer Jailed for Misconduct During Welfare Check
PC Carl Edwards, a police officer from Merseyside, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison after making sexual comments to a 17-year-old girl during a welfare check. The incident occurred when he spent 90 minutes alone with the girl, who was classified as high-risk and missing.
During the welfare check, Edwards attempted to touch the girl and made inappropriate offers, including asking if she wanted him to pick her up after his shift. An investigation revealed that he had also propositioned two sex workers while on duty, including one who sought his help after being assaulted.
Edwards was convicted of three counts of misconduct in a public office and two data protection offences following a trial in July. The Independent Office for Police Conduct initiated an investigation into his actions after receiving reports of his behavior in areas known for sex work. He resigned from the police force before facing misconduct proceedings.
