Porsche Dominates DTM Free Practice at Sachsenring, BMW Surprises

Thomas Preining sets the fastest time in the first practice session at Sachsenring, while BMW shows unexpected strength despite previous challenges on the track.

The DTM season continued at the Sachsenring with Thomas Preining achieving the fastest time in the first practice session, clocking in at 1:18.148 in his Porsche. In the second session, his teammate Ricardo Feller led with a slower time of 1:18.857, raising questions about the track's conditions.

Only a few drivers improved their times in the second practice, including Marco Wittmann from BMW and Arjun Maini from HRT Ford. Team boss Gottfried Grasser suggested that oil from historic cars, which practiced earlier, might have affected the track's grip.

BMW's Kelvin van der Linde and Wittmann performed well, with van der Linde finishing just 0.087 seconds behind Preining in the first session. The day also saw Audi's Simon Connor Primm making his DTM debut, finishing 18th, while Maximilian Paul returned to the track after a serious injury, placing 19th.
