Porsche to Withdraw from IMSA GTP Class by 2027, Penske May Switch to Cadillac
Porsche has announced its intention to withdraw from the GTP class of the IMSA SportsCar Championship by the end of 2027. This decision follows a previous agreement that allowed Penske to operate Porsche's 963 LMDh for an additional year in both IMSA and the World Endurance Championship (WEC).
The change comes as Porsche decided to terminate its Hypercar program, including participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, by the end of 2025. This adjustment allows Penske to continue as Porsche's factory team in the U.S. for one more season, as the company aims to focus on its key market.
Amid these developments, Penske is reportedly considering a return to the WEC with a privately-entered Cadillac, potentially competing at Le Mans in 2027. However, questions remain regarding the implications of such a move on Penske's existing contract with Porsche. Despite the end of Porsche's factory program, the Porsche 963 may still compete in IMSA under privateer teams.
