Port Adelaide Magpies to Exit SANFL by 2028
The Port Adelaide Magpies have announced their intention to leave the SANFL by the end of their agreement in 2028. This decision was confirmed by the club's chief executive, Matthew Richardson, who emphasized the need for improved player development.
Richardson noted that the current setup in the SANFL does not adequately support the development of younger players. He indicated that the club is considering a move to the VFL, aligning with the Adelaide Crows, who support the establishment of a second-tier AFL league.
The SANFL responded by highlighting the upcoming finals series and the competitive landscape of the league, which includes strong teams like Norwood, Glenelg, and Sturt. The Power have a long history in the SANFL, having been established in 1870 and winning 36 premierships.
