Potential Candidates for Future Power Four Head Coach Openings

As the 2026 college football season approaches, potential candidates for head coach openings in the Power Four are beginning to surface. While some programs may retain their current coaches, several names have emerged as strong fits for possible vacancies.

Wisconsin could consider Eck, a former offensive lineman and coach with a successful track record, including a 9-4 season at New Mexico. Other candidates include Jake Dickert, who led Wake Forest to a 7-6 record, and Tim Polasek from North Dakota State, known for his offensive line expertise. In Colorado, Lewis has rebuilt San Diego State into a competitive program and could return with more experience than before.

Schumann, the Georgia defensive coordinator, is viewed as a top candidate for North Carolina should they seek a new coach. Blake Harrell from East Carolina and Dillingham, who has experience at Arizona State, are also notable mentions. If South Carolina looks for a new coach, Key, who has improved Georgia Tech, and Dan Mullen, currently at UNLV, could be in the mix.
