Power Four Conferences Implement Ban on Pro Football Players Returning to College

All Power Four conferences have established policies that prohibit professional football players from returning to college teams. The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) was the final conference to implement this ban.

The Big Ten initiated the restrictions, declaring that players who have signed professional contracts or participated in the NFL draft without withdrawing are ineligible. Following this, the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and the Big 12 adopted similar rules, extending the ban to basketball as well.

The ACC emphasized its commitment to maintaining college sports as a distinct opportunity for student-athletes. This move has prompted legal challenges from some players seeking to regain eligibility, raising concerns that the conferences may face lawsuits as defendants in these cases.
