Prakash Padukone Calls for Consistency from Indian Badminton Players
Prakash Padukone, the former All England champion, expressed disappointment regarding India's performance at the Asian Games, where the country secured only one bronze medal. He emphasized that this outcome should be seen as a disappointment rather than an anomaly, suggesting that Indian shuttlers possess the talent to achieve better results.
During a recent event in Mumbai, Padukone noted that he expected the players to at least match their previous medal tally. He called for greater consistency among established players, who often follow significant victories with early tournament exits. He acknowledged the challenges of maintaining peak performance throughout the year but insisted that players could improve with more effort.
Padukone was in Mumbai to announce a partnership between the Padukone School of Badminton and the International Institute of Sports Management. He recommended that players focus on a few key tournaments each year to maximize their performance. He expressed optimism about the future of Indian badminton, highlighting emerging talents like Ayush Shetty, Unnati Hooda, and Tanvi Sharma. He also praised P.V. Sindhu for her continued drive and success, despite her extensive medal collection.
