Preeti Pal Dedicates Silver Medal to Late Training Partner at Asian Para Games
Preeti Pal, an athlete from India, dedicated her second silver medal at the Asian Para Games to her late training partner, Chirag Tyagi, who was killed in May. Pal remembered Tyagi as a younger brother who aspired to win medals for India and believed he would have succeeded had he been alive.
Pal, who has cerebral palsy, secured silver in the women's 100m T35 final, adding to her earlier silver in the 200m T35 event. She and fellow sprinter Simran Sharma trained with Tyagi at Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium under coach Gajendra Singh. The news of Tyagi's murder deeply affected both athletes, and they often reflect on his memory during their training.
Initially thought to be an accident, Tyagi's death was later revealed to be a murder by a fellow athlete. His family continues to support Pal and Sharma, who have maintained contact and provided financial assistance. Tyagi had qualified for the Para Asian Games in multiple events before his untimely death.
