Premier League Bans Gambling Sponsorships on Shirts
This season, Premier League shirts will feature a new look following a vote by clubs to prohibit gambling companies from appearing on the front of jerseys. This decision comes two decades after gambling firms were first allowed to display their logos on team kits.
In recent seasons, 11 out of 20 clubs had gambling-related sponsorships, but the new ban has left eight teams, including Nottingham Forest and Chelsea, searching for alternative sponsors. The shift reflects changing expectations from clubs regarding sponsorship deals, as noted by Kieran Maguire, a football finance expert.
Historically, sponsorships have evolved from local businesses to global brands, with technology and finance now leading the way. This season, four clubs will feature tech sponsors, while finance firms will sponsor five teams. The landscape of sponsorship continues to change, with clubs adapting to new market conditions.
