
Premier League Clubs Spend £2.14bn This Summer, Eyeing Record
This summer, Premier League clubs have collectively spent £2.14bn in the transfer window, with more than two weeks remaining before the deadline. This amount exceeds the total spending for the entire summer of 2024 (£1.98bn), 2022 (£1.94bn), 2021 (£1.13bn), and 2020 (£1.32bn), according to data from FootballTransfers.com.
The spending is led by Chelsea, which has committed £348m, followed by Tottenham at £228m, and both Arsenal and Manchester City at £151m each. Notably, Chelsea, Tottenham, and City have all set new club transfer records during this window. Additionally, clubs like Aston Villa, Brentford, Brighton, and Leeds United have also made their most expensive signings this summer.
Intra-league transfers have been significant, with nearly £785m spent on players moving between Premier League clubs. This trend has been consistent, with last season seeing a record £1.29bn spent on such transfers. The Big Six clubs have played a major role, spending £546.5m on players from non-Big Six clubs this summer. Overall, Premier League clubs have received £1.28bn in transfer fees, resulting in a net spend of £856m, which remains the highest among major European leagues.
