Preseason College Basketball Coaches' Poll Highlights Top Teams for 2026-27
CBS Sports has released its preseason college basketball coaches' poll for the 2026-27 season, with Florida, Duke, and Tennessee emerging as the top contenders. Nearly 100 Division I coaches participated in the survey, providing insights into the teams expected to excel this upcoming season.
Florida topped the poll, benefiting from a strong roster that includes three starters from their previous national championship team. Key players such as Thomas Haugh, who opted to return for another season, and national defensive player of the year Rueben Chinyelu are set to contribute significantly. The Gators retained 81.8% of their scoring from last season, marking a notable advantage in team continuity.
Duke secured the second position in the poll, with expectations for a deep roster led by transfer John Blackwell. Tennessee followed closely in third, with hopes for a potent offense under coach Rick Barnes. Other teams receiving votes included UConn, Illinois, Arizona, Louisville, and Texas, each with their own strengths and returning talent. Virginia, despite a solid previous season, did not receive any votes in the poll.
