Prichard Colón, Former Boxer, Passes Away at 33 After Severe Injury

Prichard Colón, a former boxer from Puerto Rico, has died at the age of 33, more than a decade after sustaining severe brain injuries during a fight. His father, Richard Colón, announced his passing on social media, although the cause of death was not disclosed.

Colón was injured in a match against Terrel Williams in Virginia in October 2015. The fight ended controversially when Williams delivered an illegal punch, leading to Colón being knocked down twice. Following the match, he experienced severe health issues, including a coma lasting seven months after undergoing surgery to relieve pressure on his brain.

In the years following the incident, Colón made notable progress in his recovery, eventually being able to communicate through gestures and a computer. His story resonated deeply within the boxing community, prompting tributes that highlighted his courage and the support from his family and fans.
