Production of Beatles Movies Underway Amid Wig Controversy
Four films centered on The Beatles are currently being produced, with each movie dedicated to a different member of the iconic band. Director Sam Mendes has described the project as a potential binge-able theatrical experience, although details about the release schedule remain unclear.
A recent set photo featuring actors portraying the band members has sparked discussion, particularly regarding the appearance of their wigs. Harris Dickinson, Paul Mescal, Joseph Quinn, and Barry Keoghan portray John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, respectively, but the wigs have drawn criticism for their unrealistic look.
Expert hair and makeup artist Ashley Jensen provided insights into the use of wigs in film, explaining that they can simplify styling and protect actors' natural hair. However, she noted that the wigs in this production may lack the organic feel necessary to convincingly represent the Beatles' iconic hairstyles. Jensen highlighted that budget constraints often impact the quality of wigs in high-budget productions, suggesting that the hair and makeup team may be working with limited resources.
