Proposal for Penn State Women's Volleyball Matches at Bryce Jordan Center
There is a growing suggestion for Penn State women's volleyball to play select matches at the Bryce Jordan Center (BJC), inspired by the recent success of outdoor hockey games at Beaver Stadium. In January 2026, both the men's and women's hockey teams set attendance records, with the women's team attracting 1,838 fans and the men's team drawing 74,575.
The idea is to hold significant matches, such as the upcoming game against No. 1 Nebraska, at the BJC, which could accommodate a larger crowd compared to Rec Hall. The women's volleyball team has demonstrated its potential for larger audiences, particularly after winning the NCAA national championship in December 2024 under head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley, who made history as the first female head coach to achieve this title.
In September, the Nittany Lions played at Wrigley Field, where they faced Kentucky in front of a sold-out crowd of 43,067. The proposal envisions a vibrant atmosphere at the BJC, similar to past memorable events hosted by Penn State. Schumacher-Cawley has expressed interest in the idea, indicating that it could provide a unique experience for players and fans alike.
