P.V. Sindhu Inaugurates Multi-Sport Centre for Excellence in Visakhapatnam
P.V. Sindhu, along with Andhra Pradesh IT & HRD Minister Nara Lokesh, inaugurated the P.V. Sindhu Centre for Sports Excellence in Visakhapatnam on August 5, 2026. This initiative aims to support the development of future Olympic athletes across seven sports disciplines.
The centre, covering nearly two lakh square feet, was initially focused on badminton but has since expanded to include table tennis, swimming, shooting, football, basketball, and chess. Sindhu emphasized the goal of providing equal importance to all sports from the beginning.
To prepare for this project, Sindhu and her husband researched leading sports facilities globally, visiting locations in Doha, Milan, and Australia. The facility is expected to be completed by May 2028, allowing children to explore various sports before specializing. Sindhu expressed her hope that this centre would inspire a new generation of athletes and contribute significantly to India's sporting legacy.
