Rafael Jodar Advances to NBO Semifinals After Defeating Arthur Fils
Nineteen-year-old Rafael Jodar from Spain progressed to the semifinals of the men's National Bank Open in Montreal after defeating France's Arthur Fils with a score of 7-6 (5), 6-3 on Tuesday afternoon.
This victory marks Jodar's first appearance in an ATP Masters 1000 semifinal and improves his season record to 34-13. He has climbed from a ranking of No. 168 at the start of the year to No. 11 in the live ATP rankings.
Jodar's achievement makes him the first male player born in 2006 or later to reach the semifinals of a Masters event. He will face Brandon Nakashima, who also advanced after defeating Luciano Darderi. The quarterfinal matches were initially scheduled for Monday but were postponed due to thunderstorms.
