Raiders Claim Former 49ers Cornerback Darrell Luter Jr. Amidst Competitive Waiver Claims

The Las Vegas Raiders have claimed cornerback Darrell Luter Jr. from the San Francisco 49ers, who was a highly sought-after player during the NFL waiver claims process. This move comes after the league's 53-man roster deadline, which saw teams actively making adjustments.

Luter, a fifth-round draft pick in 2023, attracted interest from five teams, including the Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins, Dallas Cowboys, and Indianapolis Colts. He played seven games in his rookie season, contributing on special teams as the 49ers reached Super Bowl LVIII, where he experienced a notable mishap.

In his second season, Luter faced challenges, appearing in only three games before being placed on injured reserve. However, he rebounded in 2025, participating in all 17 games and recording significant stats. The Raiders' decision to claim him resulted in the release of Decamerion Richardson from their roster, which includes six cornerbacks.
