Raiders GM Discusses Fernando Mendoza's Development
As the NFL season approaches, Raiders General Manager John Spytek has shared insights on quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who was drafted first overall. Although head coach Klint Kubiak has not officially announced it, indications suggest that Kirk Cousins will start the season as the team's quarterback.
Mendoza showed glimpses of his potential during the preseason, completing 25 of 45 passes for 240 yards, along with one touchdown and two interceptions. Spytek emphasized Mendoza's dedication, noting his strong work ethic and commitment to improvement.
Spytek acknowledged that while the team is focused on ensuring Mendoza is ready for play, there are various paths to developing a young quarterback. He mentioned the importance of competition within the team, stating that the best players will earn their spots. The Raiders are set to begin their season at home against the Dolphins on September 13.
