Raiders' Rushing Struggles Highlight Issues with Kubiak's Offense
The Las Vegas Raiders have seen their rushing game decline from a strong start in Week 1 to a significant weakness as the season progresses. Coach Klint Kubiak's wide zone scheme is now facing challenges that require more than just effort from the players.
In their opening game against Miami, Ashton Jeanty and Mike Washington combined for over 140 rushing yards. However, subsequent games have shown a stark contrast, with the team struggling to gain yards, including a mere 72 yards against the Chiefs and averaging just over 2 yards per carry against the Patriots. Currently, the Raiders rank low in the league for yards per carry.
Kubiak has acknowledged that the issues stem from the coaching staff and the complexity of the wide zone offense, which demands precise execution and teamwork among the linemen. While some players, like Kolton Miller and Tyler Linderbaum, fit the scheme well, others are still adapting. The running backs and tight ends also play crucial roles in executing the offense effectively. The Raiders need to improve their execution and cohesion to revitalize their ground game, which has been overshadowed by the passing attack.
