Raiders Secure Michael Mayer with Three-Year Extension
The Las Vegas Raiders have reached an agreement with tight end Michael Mayer for a three-year contract extension, as reported by Ian Rapoport. The extension is valued at $45 million, with $30 million guaranteed.
Mayer, who was selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, was entering the last year of his four-year rookie contract. The Raiders have made significant investments in the tight end position, including the addition of first-round pick Brock Bowers for 2024, who may also pursue a contract extension next year.
Despite being listed as a backup to Bowers on the depth chart, both players are expected to be utilized extensively in the Raiders' offense. New head coach Klint Kubiak aims to develop a system around rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza, relying on Mayer and Bowers as key targets for the young quarterback.
