Rams Coach Confirms Ty Simpson Will Play in Preseason
As the Los Angeles Rams gear up for their first preseason game, head coach Sean McVay confirmed that rookie quarterback Ty Simpson will definitely play. However, McVay has not yet made a decision regarding veteran Stetson Bennett's participation.
McVay indicated that if Bennett does not play, the preseason snaps will be divided between Simpson and undrafted rookie Matthew Caldwell, who previously played at Texas. Bennett, selected in the fourth round of the 2023 draft, has not yet appeared in a regular-season game for the Rams.
The Rams will eventually need to determine whether Simpson, Bennett, or Caldwell will be the backup to quarterback Matthew Stafford, the 2025 NFL MVP. McVay's decision will likely be influenced by Simpson's performance during the preseason. Additionally, the team may consider the possibility of bringing in Jimmy Garoppolo, who is interested in playing in 2026, as a backup for Stafford.
