Rams Release Kicker Harrison Mevis After Loss to Bills, Sign Blake Grupe
The Los Angeles Rams have made a change to their special teams after losing 37-34 in overtime to the Buffalo Bills. The team announced the release of kicker Harrison Mevis and the signing of Blake Grupe from the New York Jets' practice squad.
During the recent game, Mevis successfully converted all four extra-point attempts but missed two field-goal attempts, including a crucial 48-yard attempt in overtime that was tipped by a Bills defender. Grupe, who stands at 5-foot-7 and weighs 156 pounds, previously played for the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts after going undrafted from Notre Dame in 2023.
In his career, Grupe has achieved an 81.9% success rate on field goals and has made 98% of his extra points. Mevis, who played 14 games for the Rams over the last two seasons, had a disappointing 55.6% field goal percentage this season, ranking last in the NFL. The Rams' head coach Sean McVay faced criticism for conservative play-calling during the overtime period, which contributed to the team's loss.
