Rangers Make Minimal Moves at Trade Deadline

The Texas Rangers made a single trade on the MLB deadline day, exchanging utility infielder Josh Smith for rookie reliever Adam Macko from Toronto. Smith, who had been playing in Triple-A, will be joined by Macko in the same league.

Earlier in the week, the Rangers also traded a minor league infielder to acquire controllable middle reliever Chase Silseth and third catcher Logan O’Hoppe from the Angels. Despite being in first place in the AL West at the time of the Silseth trade, the Rangers fell behind in the division after a sweep by Houston, leading to speculation about a potential roster overhaul.

Reports indicated that the Rangers would not pursue a teardown, as they opted to maintain their current roster, which lacks the appearance of a strong contender. Additionally, pitcher Jacob deGrom expressed a desire to remain with the team, which may have hindered potential trade opportunities.
