Rangers Plan Similar Payroll for 2027 Season
The Texas Rangers are planning to maintain a payroll for the 2027 season that is similar to their 2026 figures, according to Chris Young, the president of baseball operations. Young discussed the club's financial strategy during a recent media session.
The Rangers' payroll for 2026 was reported at $193 million, with projections for 2027 set at $175 million. This represents a decrease of approximately $20 million. Despite finishing the 2026 season with an 80-82 record, the team recognizes the need for improvements, particularly in key positions.
Young indicated that the Rangers are exploring potential trades to reallocate funds and strengthen their roster. Players such as Corey Seager, Jacob deGrom, and Nathan Eovaldi, who are among the highest earners, may be considered for trades, although their contracts include no-trade clauses that could complicate any moves. The team faces challenges in finding suitable trades while also addressing gaps in their lineup.
