Rangers Re-sign John King to Minor League Contract

The Texas Rangers have re-signed left-handed reliever John King to a minor league contract, as reported by Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News. The deal was finalized recently, allowing King to be eligible for postseason play if the Rangers qualify.

King, who was released by the Miami Marlins last week, had initially signed a $1.5 million contract with them. His performance declined significantly after a strong start, allowing 13 runs on 13 hits with seven walks and three strikeouts in 9 2/3 innings since the All-Star Break, contrasting sharply with his earlier 2.18 ERA.

Having previously played for the Rangers from 2020 to 2023, King made 87 appearances for the team before being traded to the St. Louis Cardinals. He was part of the trade that sent Jordan Montgomery to Texas, and he earned a World Series ring that year. Currently, he faces competition from several left-handed pitchers in the Rangers' bullpen.
