Rangers' Sebastian Walcott Engages in Outfield Drills
Rangers' top prospect Sebastian Walcott is currently enhancing his skills in the outfield while participating in the Arizona Fall League this fall.
Although Walcott has primarily played shortstop and third base in the minors, the Rangers are focusing on his outfield training. He has not yet played an outfield game in the AFL, but the team's director of player development, Josh Bonifay, has been conducting drills with him prior to games.
Walcott, who is 20 years old, was considered for a major league roster spot before an elbow injury sidelined him for part of the season. After undergoing a procedure to address the injury, he returned to play in mid-July, finishing the minor league season with a strong performance, including a .322 batting average and nine home runs in 37 games at Double-A. He is expected to start the upcoming season at Triple-A, and his ability to play the outfield could enhance his chances for promotion, especially with current blockages at shortstop and third base.
