Rangers Update: Eovaldi's Role, Higashioka's Return, and Jung's Progress
Nathan Eovaldi recently threw nearly 40 pitches during a bullpen session, as reported by Rangers manager Skip Schumaker. Eovaldi, who has been sidelined since August 7 due to elbow inflammation, might return in a limited capacity as the team approaches the end of the regular season.
The Rangers, currently two games behind the Astros and Guardians in the AL West and wild card standings, are considering using Eovaldi as a bulk pitcher or limited-innings starter to help the team while he rebuilds arm strength. Eovaldi expressed willingness to adapt to whatever role the team decides.
In addition, Kyle Higashioka is starting a minor league rehab assignment after being out since July 20 with a flexor strain. Josh Jung is also making progress from a right calf strain and is expected to participate in live batting practice soon. Meanwhile, Jack Leiter continues his rehab at the Rangers’ Spring Training facility, with uncertainty surrounding his return this season.
