Raul Fernandez Secures Second Place at Indonesian GP Despite Injuries
Raul Fernandez, riding for Trackhouse Aprilia, achieved a remarkable second-place finish at the Indonesian Grand Prix despite suffering from two broken fingers. The race took place at Mandalika, where Fernandez faced significant challenges following injuries sustained during the previous day's sprint.
Initially, it was confirmed that he had fractured one finger, but a second fracture was identified on the morning of the race. The injury affected his right index finger, which is crucial for braking. To adapt, Fernandez and his team modified his braking technique, allowing him to use his middle finger instead.
During the race, Fernandez experienced pain approximately one-third of the way through but managed to maintain his lead for a time. He ultimately finished behind factory rider Bezzecchi. Fernandez expressed gratitude towards the MotoGP medical staff for their support, which included taping his finger to help him ride more comfortably. The race concluded with a strong showing for Aprilia, securing multiple podium spots.
