Ravi Shastri Advises Jasprit Bumrah to Limit Format Participation
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has expressed support for Bhuvneshwar Kumar's return to the T20I squad for the upcoming New Zealand tour, which begins on October 22. He also believes that Mohammed Shami deserves a recall in both the ODI and Test formats.
Shastri emphasized the importance of managing Jasprit Bumrah's workload as India prepares for the 2027 ODI World Cup. He advised that Bumrah should not participate in all three formats, suggesting a focus on Test cricket while playing selectively in ODIs and T20Is. Shastri highlighted the significance of the six-week tour, noting that it could provide insights into India's readiness for the World Cup.
As India faces a challenging path to qualify for the World Test Championship final, Shastri pointed out that winning a majority of their remaining matches is crucial. He also mentioned that adapting to New Zealand's conditions will be essential, as they are expected to favor seam and swing bowling.
