Rayo Vallecano Match Abandoned Due to Fan Protest
Rayo Vallecano's La Liga match against Athletic Club was abandoned on Saturday after fans protested by throwing paper planes and rubber balls onto the pitch. This incident occurred during Rayo's first home game of the season at Estadio de Vallecas, which had recently been closed for health and safety concerns.
The protest was directed at club owner Raul Martin Presa, who has faced criticism for the poor condition of the facilities. In the 13th minute, coinciding with a chant calling for Presa to leave, fans began throwing objects onto the field, prompting the referee to stop the game. After a brief pause, the match resumed but was abandoned again shortly after due to further protests.
Following the abandonment, Athletic Club announced plans to refund fans who had traveled to the match. Rayo Vallecano has faced ongoing issues, including a lack of proper facilities and ticketing services, and currently sits 13th in the La Liga standings with two wins from seven matches.
