Rays Make Roster Changes Amid Injury Concerns
The Tampa Bay Rays announced several roster moves on Tuesday, including placing right-handed pitcher Tyler Wells on the 15-day injured list due to tightness in his right forearm, effective retroactively from September 13.
In addition to Wells' placement, the team reinstated outfielder Jake Fraley from the 60-day injured list, recalled righty Alex Cook from Triple-A Durham, and optioned catcher Kenny Piper back to Durham. To accommodate Fraley's return, the Rays also recalled injured outfielder Jacob Melton from Durham and placed him on the major league 60-day injured list.
Details regarding the severity of Wells' injury have not been disclosed, and he last pitched on Saturday without any apparent issues. If the injury is minor, he may return for the playoffs, especially if the Rays secure a first-round bye. Wells has been a significant contributor since joining the team, posting a 1.50 ERA in 18 innings since his acquisition from the Orioles.
