Rays Sign Austin Slater to Minor League Contract

The Tampa Bay Rays have re-signed outfielder Austin Slater to a minor league contract, as noted in the team's transaction log. Slater, who opted out of his previous deal last month, will return to Triple-A Durham after not joining another team.

Slater's new contract was finalized recently, and if submitted before noon ET, he could be included in the postseason roster if necessary. This season, he has appeared in 65 major league games for the Rays, Mets, and Marlins, with a batting average of .231 and a .311 on-base percentage.

Despite struggling in the majors, Slater has excelled in Triple-A, boasting a .305 batting average and a 15% walk rate. He has experience playing all three outfield positions and first base, primarily excelling in corner outfield roles. Slater will become a free agent at the end of the season, having accumulated over eight years of major league service since his debut in 2017.
