Rays Sign Jake Woodford to Minor League Contract
The Tampa Bay Rays have signed right-handed pitcher Jake Woodford to a minor league contract. This move comes after Woodford chose free agency following his recent waiver by the Chicago Cubs.
Woodford previously had a stint with the Rays during Spring Training after signing a minor league deal in the offseason. Although he did not make the opening day roster, he later secured a spot on the Milwaukee Brewers' MLB roster. Throughout the season, he has appeared in 18 games, accumulating a 7.18 ERA over 26 1/3 innings, primarily serving as a long reliever.
With Griffin Jax recently placed on the injured list, the Rays may utilize Woodford in a multi-inning role at Triple-A Durham, as they navigate their pitching needs.
