Red Sox Acquire Outfielder Jahmai Jones from Tigers

The Boston Red Sox have announced the acquisition of outfielder Jahmai Jones from the Detroit Tigers. This move comes after the Tigers designated Jones for assignment last week. In exchange, Detroit will receive left-handed pitching prospect Jojo Ingrassia as the player to be named later.

Jones, 28, previously showed promise with the Tigers, posting a .287/.387/.550 batting line last season. However, his performance has declined this year, with a .137/.219/.221 line over 105 plate appearances. The Red Sox, who have an open spot on their 40-man roster, will provide Jones an opportunity to regain his form.

Ingrassia, a 14th-round pick from Cal State-Fullerton in the 2023 draft, is currently in his second season of high-A ball, where he has a 3.27 ERA and a 33% strikeout rate across 44 innings. The Red Sox are looking to bolster their lineup with right-handed bats, and Jones will need to secure a spot on the active roster as he is out of options.
