Red Sox Assign Seth Martinez to Triple-A Worcester
The Boston Red Sox have announced that right-handed pitcher Seth Martinez has been sent outright to Triple-A Worcester following his designation for assignment three days prior.
Martinez, 31, has pitched 145 innings in six major league seasons, primarily with the Houston Astros from 2021 to 2024, where he recorded a 3.93 ERA. His performance has declined recently, with only 7 2/3 innings pitched in the big leagues since 2025, and he gave up 14 home runs in 60 innings this year for Worcester, resulting in a 5.55 ERA.
Having previously elected free agency after being outrighted by the Marlins, Martinez now faces the decision of whether to remain with the Red Sox or pursue free agency again. The Red Sox will have an expanded roster starting September 1, allowing them to utilize additional relief options as they aim for a Wild Card spot.
