Red Sox Call Up Seth Martinez from Triple-A Worcester

The Boston Red Sox have announced the promotion of right-handed pitcher Seth Martinez from Triple-A Worcester. In a corresponding move, left-handed pitcher Raymond Burgos has been optioned back to Worcester.

Martinez, 31, is set to potentially pitch in the majors for the sixth consecutive season. He has previously played for the Houston Astros from 2021 to 2024 and appeared in six games for the Miami Marlins last season. Throughout his major league career, he has maintained a 4.00 ERA over 144 innings, with strikeout, walk, and ground-ball rates of 20.5%, 9.5%, and 38.6%, respectively.

Despite a solid performance in 2024 with a 3.59 ERA over 52 2/3 innings for the Astros, Martinez faced challenges after being designated for assignment by the Marlins last September. He signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox in January and has pitched 60 innings for Worcester this season, recording a 5.55 ERA. As he is out of options, he will need to remain on the Red Sox roster to avoid passing through waivers.
