Red Sox Call Up Seth Martinez from Triple-A Worcester
The Boston Red Sox have announced the selection of right-handed pitcher Seth Martinez from Triple-A Worcester. In a corresponding move, left-handed pitcher Raymond Burgos has been optioned back to Worcester.
Martinez, 31, is set to potentially pitch in the majors for the sixth consecutive season. He previously played for the Houston Astros from 2021 to 2024 and made six appearances with the Miami Marlins last season. Throughout his major league career, he has maintained a 4.00 ERA over 144 innings, with strikeout, walk, and ground-ball rates of 20.5%, 9.5%, and 38.6%, respectively.
Despite a solid performance in 2024 with a 3.59 ERA over 52 2/3 innings, Martinez has had limited opportunities since then. After being designated for assignment by the Marlins last September, he signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox in January. In 60 innings with Worcester, he has recorded a 5.55 ERA, but the Red Sox are giving him another chance in the majors. As he is out of options, Martinez must remain on the roster or pass through waivers.
