Red Sox Designate Eduardo Rivera for Assignment
The Boston Red Sox have designated reliever Eduardo Rivera for assignment, reaching the maximum limit of 40 players on their roster.
Rivera, a 23-year-old left-handed pitcher, had a notable minor league season, averaging 95 mph with his fastball and achieving a 30% strikeout rate, despite a 12.7% walk rate over 55 2/3 innings. He made four appearances in the major leagues, allowing seven runs in ten innings.
He concluded the season on the injured list due to a lumbar strain, which, along with his control issues, led the Red Sox to decide to part ways with him. Rivera still has two minor league options left, and it is anticipated that he may be claimed off waivers or traded soon, given his potential as a bullpen pitcher.
