Red Sox Eye Seiya Suzuki for Offseason Boost
The Boston Red Sox are considering a pursuit of free-agent outfielder Seiya Suzuki this offseason to strengthen their lineup with right-handed power and enhance flexibility around their young players.
In the 2026 season, Suzuki achieved a .270 batting average, a .368 on-base percentage, and a .473 slugging percentage, hitting 26 home runs and driving in 86 runs over 143 games with the Chicago Cubs. His experience includes 111 games in right field and about 30 as a designated hitter, which could be beneficial for the Red Sox as they manage the playing time of Roman Anthony, who had a limited season due to injury.
Wilyer Abreu, who performed well in right field for Boston, recorded 24 home runs and 76 RBIs, along with strong defensive metrics. The addition of Suzuki could allow for better rotation options without diminishing Abreu's role. However, concerns about Suzuki's contract length and potential shift to designated hitter as he ages remain. Currently, Boston has several outfield options, and any signing would require careful consideration of their existing roster dynamics.
