Red Sox Hire Jason Bell from Astros Coaching Staff
The Boston Red Sox have announced the hiring of Jason Bell, who previously served as the major league field coordinator and outfield coach for the Houston Astros. His specific responsibilities with the Red Sox are still being finalized.
Bell, 36, has been with the Astros since 2017, where he progressed from a development coach to managing in their minor league system and then to a role on the major league coaching staff. His departure comes amid significant changes within the Astros organization, including the dismissal of manager Joe Espada and several other coaches.
The Red Sox are currently restructuring their coaching staff after the firing of manager Alex Cora and five coaches earlier this year. Interim roles have been filled by various minor league coaches, and Bell's addition may lead to further adjustments within the coaching hierarchy.
