Red Sox Place Willson Contreras on Injured List
The Boston Red Sox have announced that first baseman Willson Contreras has been placed on the 10-day injured list because of a left hamstring strain. In his absence, catcher and infielder Mickey Gasper has been recalled from Triple-A Worcester.
The severity of Contreras's injury remains unclear, but it may have been an ongoing issue. He had previously shown signs of discomfort in his hamstring on August 12, although he continued to play until being removed from a recent game due to tightness. The team will now allow him to rest for at least ten days.
Contreras has been a key player for the Red Sox this season, boasting 26 home runs and a .274/.384/.516 batting line, making him their top hitter. The team currently holds the second American League Wild Card spot, five games ahead of the Guardians. Gasper, who has experience at both catcher and first base, will step in during Contreras's absence, aiming to maintain the team's performance as they prepare for the postseason.
