Red Sox Reliever Zack Kelly Recovers from Elbow Fracture Amid Coaching Changes
Zack Kelly, a reliever for the Boston Red Sox, is recovering from a fractured elbow that led to his placement on the 60-day injured list. Initially diagnosed with right elbow inflammation in July, further testing confirmed the fracture, and he is expected to resume throwing in a few weeks.
The 31-year-old Kelly has been part of the Red Sox bullpen for five seasons, achieving a 4.04 ERA over 115 appearances. He struggled early in the season but improved in his last 12 outings before being optioned to Triple-A Worcester, where he sustained the injury. With no minor league options remaining, his return to the majors remains uncertain.
In addition to Kelly's situation, the Red Sox have made several coaching changes. Chad Epperson has been promoted to manage the WooSox after previously serving as third base coach. This follows a significant coaching shakeup in April that resulted in the firing of manager Alex Cora and several others. Epperson, who has over two decades with the organization, replaces Iggy Suarez as the interim manager of the WooSox. First base coach Pablo Cabrera has also been reassigned back to the minors, returning to his role as defensive coordinator.
