Durbin's grand slam in the eighth inning broke a close 1-0 game, marking his second career bases-loaded homer. He finished the game with three hits and five RBIs, helping the Red Sox end a five-game losing streak and salvage the final game of the four-game series.

Tolle, who improved his record to 8-6, retired the last 17 batters he faced, striking out four and issuing no walks. The Red Sox scored their first run against Max Scherzer in the first inning, with Wilyer Abreu scoring on a double by Willson Contreras. Scherzer, who pitched his 3,000th inning, allowed one run and three hits over five innings. Boston also placed reliever Garrett Whitlock on the injured list due to elbow inflammation.
