Nido, 32, is known for his defensive skills and has spent most of his career with the New York Mets, along with brief stints with the Cubs and Tigers. His major league batting average stands at .215, but he is recognized for his elite framing and blocking abilities. After being released by the Tigers last month, where he had a .236 batting average in 166 plate appearances, Nido has been a free agent.

Currently, the Red Sox have three catchers on their major league roster, including Connor Wong and Mickey Gasper, who has primarily played as a designated hitter this season. Nido's defensive prowess may lead to his involvement if Rutschman or Wong require time off due to injuries.
