Red Sox Sign Veteran Reliever John Brebbia to Minor League Deal

The Boston Red Sox have signed veteran reliever John Brebbia to a minor league contract following his release from the Colorado Rockies' Triple-A team. This move was reported by Tom Caron of NESN.

Brebbia, who is 36 years old, has a history with the Red Sox, having been born and raised in the Boston area. He previously joined the organization on a minor league deal last September but did not pitch for Triple-A Worcester due to health issues. He began the current season with Colorado but was released before the regular season started, later signing with the Minnesota Twins before opting out of that agreement.

In the minors, Brebbia showed improvement, posting a 1.62 ERA and a 30.2% strikeout rate over 16 2/3 innings with Albuquerque. Although his fastball velocity has decreased compared to his earlier years, he has demonstrated better control, issuing only one walk in 13 games. The Red Sox currently have the best bullpen ERA in the league, and while there may not be an immediate spot for Brebbia, his experience adds valuable depth to the team's minor league roster.
